    Gitmo March

Wapo's story about the protest that I linked yesterday was in the Metro section of the print edition and contained this picture (not included in the online article for some reason, but I found it!):

Protesters in jumpsuits and hoods march from the Supreme Court to D.C. Superior Court, where 35 members of Witness Against Torture are on trial, accused of staging an illegal demonstration at the Supreme Court in January. Photo Credit: Photos By Nikki Kahn -- The Washington Post Photo

What great banner discipline!  And do you like my spiffy new sneakers?

The banner-holder closest to the camera is just perfect. The guy on the far end on the other hand should have been holding the very bottom of the banner so as to keep it straight and as dramatic (not to mention readable) as possible.

But that guy in the middle...oy. Ruins the entire message with those flashy designer WHITE sneakers when everybody else is in full costume with cruddy black shoes like real prisoners wear. He might as well have carried a big plate of lemon chicken to remind everybody how cushy those terrists have it. He could have been doing something useful like carrying a giant puppet or a FREE MUMIA sign.

/just kidding of course. I am very proud to know somebody who is putting his feet, even sneaker-clad, on the ground in the campaign against tyranny. Having finally secured a job I hope to be able to contribute more than words to the cause before much longer. :)
